Partner Profile: American College of Physicians

ACP membership includes internal medicine physicians (internists), related subspecialists, and medical students. Internal medicine physicians are specialists who apply scientific knowledge and clinical expertise to the diagnosis, treatment, and compassionate care of adults across the spectrum from health to complex illness.

ACP advocates for changes that would better support primary care physicians and recognize the value they bring to patients and the health care system. The health care system in the U.S. has long undervalued primary care and increased investment is critical. As our country’s population ages, its health care needs increase, and the demand for acute, chronic, and long-term care escalates, the need for internists trained in primary and comprehensive care of adult and adolescent patients, as well as internal medicine subspecialists, will continue to rise. That is why ACP advocates for improved payments for primary care, making primary care medicine a more attractive career path for physicians in training, and innovations in care delivery that would improve access and health outcomes.
